HYDERABAD: Violence breaks out in Saidabad following the death of a Muslim youth, Mujahid, in police firing outside the DGP’s office.

While the police and protesters are engaged in a pitched battle, a group of burqa-clad women is seen throwing stones from atop the houses.

Their target: Police. March, 2008: A group of 30 burqa-clad women storm the Saidabad police station after the arrest of Mohtasim Billa, an alleged Students’ Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) activist. They rough up policemen and smash window panes. Twenty four of them are arrested and the rest escape. Who are these aggressive women? The answer lies in a latest revelation by cadres of the SIMI that ‘‘Shaheen Force’’ is highly active in Hyderabad than in any other city across the country.

The police have now begun enquiries to identify all its members in the city and find out whether they are involved in antinational activities. A detailed report would be sent to the Centre.

Shaheen Force, essentially meant to be the SIMI’s wing for child activists, soon came to be known as its women’s wing after its leadership concluded that training children without support from women would be impossible.

The disclosure about Shaheen Force’s presence in Hyderabad was made by Qamruddin Nagori, the in-charge of SIMI activities in AP, who was recently arrested in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. He and his brother, Safdar Hussein Nagori, SIMI’s general secretary and top Jihadist idealogue, were subjected to narco-analysis in Bangalore a few days ago.

Top police sources told this website’s newspaper that Nagori had talked about the activities of Shaheen Force, particularly in Saidabad and Old City.He also reportedly revealed the names of two Saidabad-based fundamentalist outfits, under whose shadow, Shaheen Force is functioning.

‘‘So far,we have come to know that Shaheen Force has a strength of nearly 80 women. They are entrusted with the task of brainwashing and training their children, infusing anti-national feelings in them and later, convince them to undergo training in Pakistan,’’ the sources said adding that they were also supposed to ensure that all women folk wear burqas, compulsorily. Nagori further disclosed that Shaheen Force had been instructed to provide logistical support to certain ‘‘visitors’’ to the Old City, raising doubts about the role of this force in last year’s bomb blasts.

Sources pointed out that soon after the bomb blasts last year, Nagori had called up some women in Saidabad and ordered them to step up recruitment of more women, to counter the police, who they anticipated, would pick up Muslim youth for interrogation. The sleuths have obtained the telephone numbers.
