Mangalore: Smt. Nirmala
Venkatesh, National Commission for Women member to probe into Mangalore pub
attack comes out with more awful issues and blames the pub culture and illegal
pubs in Mangalore as the real issue.

She told Media that her
first recommendation will be to cancel the licence of Pub named Amnesia. They
were clearly violating rules and regulations. The NCW had instructed the police
to inquire misuse of licence, security arrangements at such centres and conduct
regular checks to see that the licence was not misused by owners of pubs, bars
or hotels.

After interrogation it has
been clear that in the pub they were serving liquor and food to outsiders
illegally. The pub has licence to serve liquor and food only to lodgers. But those
who were assaulted were outsiders and their names were not seen in the lodge
register.

She also told that no
girls or parents came forward to lodge any complaints even after National decry
over the issue. If the girls feel they were not doing anything wrong why are
they afraid to come forward and give a statement? Asked Nirmala Venkatesh.

When I met the culprits
and asked for the names or numbers of at least one girl they refused saying
they do not want to defame these girls.  They say girls of some of the big
shots are involved.

In the surprise raids
conducted in pubs in Mangalore it has been clear that illegal activities are
going on in some hotels and pubs in Mangalore, including prostitution, revealed
NCW Member.

“From
some sources we heard that there was a live band also and some girls were also
participating or whatever it is…” she said.

She
also pointed out that those who attacked pub have remorse in what they did and
they never planned to attack the girls.
