RSS has strongly condemned the insult to Swami Awadeshananda Maharaj in an Indian Alirlines flight and has demanded an immediate apology from the government. In a statement issued during the Chitrakoot meeting of the Sangh, RSS spokesperson Shri Ram Madhav said: “Swami Dayanand Saraswati of Arsha Vidya Gurukulam had organised a Dharmacharya Sabha in Mumbai recently in which peethadhipathis of different sects and mats participated. Renowed Dwarkapeeth Swamiji Sri Awadeshanandaji who participated in the Sabha boarded an Indian Airlines flight IC 147 for Jamnagar from Mumbai. The crew of the flight misbehaved with the Swamiji and forced him to get down because he was carrying his holy stick (Dharam Dand). To carry the holy stick (Dharm Dand) is compulsory religious obligation for the sanyasis of the Shankara order. Under the Civil Aviation Rule 2000, the Swamijis can carry their holy stick (Dharma Dand). When people can carry hockey sticks, cricket bats, baseball bats, why cannot a sanyasi carry a stick, which is regarded as holy. He was insulted before foreign passengers. This is an unwanted act by this anti-Hindu UPA government. Hindu society should take serious note of this.”
