By Bangladesh Minority Watch Press Release published on December 31, 2015

Yesterday on 29th December,2015, Police at Bakergonj Upazila of Barisal District attacked physically Advocate Rabindra Ghosh and his HR Team within Bakergonj police station for alleged investigation conducted by BDMW at North Kobai on minority repression is being done by local Muslim perpetrators. ( Perpetrators pushed sticks on vagina of Hindu girl Ms.Beauty Rani Shil)

Facts reveals that Ms.Beauty Rani Shil(Roy) and her widow mother made an appeal to BDMW for legal assistance to stop continuous atrocities such as sexual assault, rape, physical assault on them, those victims did never get any justice from the local administration since her father died. They also lodged F.I.R. several times to local Police stations since 2007. But police neglected to take any tangible action against perpetrators namely 1) Mohammad Saiful Khan, Md. Arafat Islam and others ( activists of present Political party in power). They forcefully occupied landed properties belonging to this destitute Hindu family even the graveyards and other religious places by intimidation and threat)

We, Human Rights Team visited the spot yesterday on 29th Dec,15 and got ample evidences of repression on destitute family at North Kobai within Bakergonj P.S.. We again came back to Bakergonj Police station and reported this matter to highest police officers who were present at the police station. Our team tried to take a photograph of a police officer sitting on the chair of Officer-in-Charge of Bakergonj police station, Mr. Anis- Additional Superintendent of Police-Barisal on the spur of the moment jumped over our activist -Joyanta and snatched away camera. I, as Team Leader, intercepted and requested not to snatch away camera, but the some other police officers on duty jumped over Adv. Rabindra Ghosh, tried to snatch away mobile phone and started to beat on his neck and trying to put Mr.Ghosh in lock-up. for alleged taking photograph of Additional Superintendent of Police. We had become puzzled and traumatized at the ugly behavior of police officers at Bakergonj Police station on duty.

We tried also communicate with I.G.of Police, Home Minister over their mobile numbers but they did not respond after repeated endeavor.

Since 2001 Mr. Ghosh and his team were attacked many times during his fact-finding mission in different parts of Bangladesh. But police did nothing to help giving legal justice to minority victims nor safety of Adv. Rabindra Ghosh.
