State president of Yuva Morcha Adv KP Prakash Babu has called for the interrogation of Jomon Puthanpurackal,  PIL activist who had made allegations in connection with the murder of Jisha, the Dalit law student.

The gruesome murder of Dalit law student Jisha had taken a sensational turn with PIL activist Jomon Puthenpurackal alleging that UDF convenor PP Thankachan is behind the murder. Jomon is said to have written a letter to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan urging him to take action against the senior Congress leader. Adv Prakash has categorically stated that Congress leader PP Thankachan and his son, along with Jomon must be interrogated to get the right leads in the case. He has also called for a Central investigating agency to look into the case, with no arrests made so far, even after a month has passed by.

“It is absolutely mysterious and baffling why the police, who have been interrogating every single human being in and around the place where the murder took place, have not yet been questioned,” said Prakash addressing a press meet. “A remonstration has been planned on 1 June at 10.00 am, where a march will be conducted to the office of ADGP, with these points raised. Remonstrations have also been organized in various parts of the state on 3 and 4 June.

Highlighting how 15 Dalit murders have taken place in Ernakulam district alone since1990, Prakash pointed out that none of them remained solved. “All these cases must be handed over to central investigating agencies. It is very clear that the way the ongoing investigations are being steered, the culprits are being enough space to escape. It has been a month and the investigation team is yet to gather evidences. It has been a month and it is becoming increasingly evident that the case is being sabotaged for vested interests. Where are those who shed copious tears for Dalits in North India? Hadn’t the LDF declared an indefinite strike? And with no arrests made yet, it is very clear why their strike suddenly came to an end,” he said.

According to the letter written by Jomon, which he has made public on his Facebook page, Jisha was Thankachan’s illegitimate child. Her mother is said to have been a worker in Thankachan’s residence for over twenty years.

“Jisha, upon knowing her parentage, is said to have confronted Thankachan about the same, seeking a portion of his wealth. She is said to have stated about conducting a DNA test to prove her parentage. This has resulted in the murder,” says the note on the Facebook wall of Jomon Puthenpurackal. The ghastly murder was allegedly committed following Jisha’s confrontation and that the dead body was cremated in a hurry to do away with any trace that would serve as possible scope for a DNA sample.

Jomon’s letter alleges that “investigating officers very craftily tried to shift focus of the murder to migrant labourers” and that “politicians were deliberately trying to hamper the progress of investigation being done by police, owing to the time being that of elections of the state legislative assembly”.

“The Congress party was well aware of the implications that would arise when the state comes to know of the involvement of one of the party’s senior leaders, in the murder. For this very reason, ever effort was made to tamper with and change the course of investigations. There was ample pressure from senior political levels regarding the same. In fact people of the area were well aware of Jisha’s parentage,” says Jomon’s letter.

Earlier police had revealed details of a gap toothed person being the possible culprit. “The details matched with that of Thankachan’s trusted aide and driver. However, instead of moving to a place which was just 10 minutes away, to further investigations, the police chose to comb states outside Kerala,” said Jomon affirming that these allegations are being levelled against Thankachan only after having acquired necessary details regarding the same.
