‘Sethu Samudram project a threat to national security’

KOCHI: The Bharateeya Abhibhashaka Parishad has warned the Central Government that the Sethu Samudram Canal Project (SSCP) would be a threat to the safety and security of the country.

In a statement issued in Kochi state general secretary of the Parishad N Nagaresh said that the project would cause a permanent threat to the people living in the coastal areas and the security of the nation.

‘‘Scientists pointed out that the Ramasethu reduced the impact of tsunami over Kerala coast in 2004,’’ he said. The proposed canal would affect the aqua-culture in the otherwise aquafertile region, he said.
