Sabarimala: Thanks to Yuvamorcha Protest, High Court bans Toll collection

via HK published on November 26, 2011

Kochi: Thanks to protest organised by Hindu organisations under Yuvamorcha, Kerala High Court on Friday prohibited toll collection from Vehicles coming to Sabarimala. The court observed that  that Devaswom Board have no authority to collect Toll from devotees and it is the responsibility of Kerala Government to maintain the roads in the state and not of Ayyappa devotees.

One of the contractors assigned to collect toll had contended that the high court had earlier granted police protection for toll collection. The court, however, disagreed, and held that the police protection provided was to maintain law and order at the toll centre, and shouldn’t be viewed as a confirmation of the validity of toll collection.
