KASARGOD: Rayana R Khasi, 23, a Muslim engineering graduate who received threats for not wearing purdah, was given police protection on Monday.

The High Court had ordered that Rayana and her family be given police protection in view of the threat from some sources for not wearing purdah. The issue hogged national headlines as  electronic media telecast the news. The issue was also published by national dailies across the country.

Two constables, one in uniform and another in plain clothes, are giving protection to Rayana and her family in their house ‘Anugraha’ in Vidyanagar.

Rayana told Express that no fresh threatening calls or letters were received after some persons threatened the family on Saturday morning. They had come in two cars and asked the family members to open the door.

The police had already registered a case against three persons, including a woman, who had  rebuked Rayana for not wearing the purdah. The High Court had served notice to one Mohammed Attagoli, who had sent her threatening letters, to appear on August 18.
