Pinarai Vijayan’s Comments on Yoga Stems from Inferiority Complex of a Commie

Kannur: The state unit of Bharatiya Janata Party has lashed out at Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan for refering to Yoga as not being part of any religion. Responding to the former, BJP state general secretary K Surendran said that Yoga is a science, planned and set to disciplined by ancient seers of Bharat. And therefore has it been mentioned anywhere that Yoga is the prerogative of Indians or Hindus, sought to know Surendran in a post published on his Facebook page.

Beginning his post with the query, “what is this ‘secular Yoga’?” Surendran says he is “not able to comprehend the same, in spite of persistent thoughts”!

Seeking to know if there is “secular Kalaripayattu or secular Karate or secular Reiki being practised here”, Surendran has asked “why these are being segregated on the basis of secularism or religious fundamentalism.” “Yoga is a science, set to discipline by ancient seers of Bharat. And therefore has it been mentioned anywhere that Yoga is the prerogative of Indians or Hindus?” he said.

Surendran has driven home the fact that many of the scientific truths expounded and being experienced by the world today have been contributed by Bharat, thousands of years ago. “It does not mean that we have gained nothing from other corners of the world. When it comes to science, there is no caste or any other dividing boundary. The world has started taking yoga in all its seriousness only now. It is true that International Yoga Day became a deciding factor towards this.”

Highlighting that “anything emanating from Bharat will have its characteristic features. And so (while doing Yoga) a few Samskrit shlokas are chanted. They are aimed towards the entire humanity. There is no need to display any inferiority complex towards this. Has anyone discerned from any other angle, the chanting of shlokas and songs, when the practitioners of Yoga, Ayurveda, Kathakali or Carnatic Sangeet do the same? Secularism should be displayed in personal lives, public lives and while executing administrative matters.”

Surendran concludes his post with a jibe that “if things go this way, wouldn’t we soon start saying secular tomato, secular lady’s finger etc.”

“Let me inform Pinarayi Vijayan, with all due respects, that the world today is in the age of metaphysics. Atleast during such occasions, kindly do not indulge in pedantry talks,” rounds up Surendran.
