P. Parameswaran welcomes Marad report

via Pioneer News Service | Kochi published on September 28, 2006

Bharatiya Vichara Kendram director P Parameswaran has termed the findings of the judicial probe panel on the 2003 Marad massacre and the subsequent action by the State Government as a triumph for the Sangh Parivar in particular and Hindu society in general.

Welcoming the panel’s findings and the LDF Government’s recommendation for a CBI probe, he said in a statement the Sangh Parivar would feel happy that all political parties, including the CPI(M), Congress and the IUML had realised and accepted the need for such an enquiry. He said the Parivar had to fight a lonely battle all these months for a CBI probe as all other parties had opposed it.

Parameswaran said that the CPI(M) leadership’s “belated wisdom in regard to Marad is definitely a smart political move by them having seen the writing on the wall”. The threat posed to the State’s social life by terrorist and communal forces, aided by foreign agencies, was so grave that the people at large, transcending political and ideological differences, felt the urgency to tackle it with determination, he said.

Any politician and political party, which failed to realise the people’s will would have to pay a big price, he opined. It was this political reality that had prompted the CPI(M) leadership and the LDF Government to act wisely “at this eleventh hour”, he said. Such a smart move was also inevitable amidst the CPI(M)’s frantic bid to cover up their internal feuds and consolidate their present sway and strength in the State, he added.

“It could help them to a certain extent realise their long-cherished dream of stealing the thunder from Hindutva forces. The BJP leadership in the State will have to take serious note of it and act, failing which the party may lose not only its credibility but also political relevance in Kerala,” the Kendram director said.
