Muslim League Minister Abdu Rabb’s Iftar Merry Making used Money from State Exchequer

Thiruvananthapuram: The Iftar party thrown by state education minister Abdu Rabb during Ramzan time, is said to have run into lakhs, which the minister has allegedly grabbed from state coffers. Sources state that he has made use of the money from his own department.

Ministers are known to throw lavish Iftar parties, spending from their own pockets. However, Abdu Rabb chose to squeeze the taxpaying citizens for his merry making spree.

The infamous party was held in the evening on 10 July, in the Sceince Technical Museum. According to Museum Director Arun Gerald Prakash, in a series of letters written by him, “money for the party comes from various departments under the education ministry, thus putting to
illegal use, the money collected from government sources.” Reports state that a meeting of senior officials of the education department was called for by state education minister on July 10. Directives were issued to various departments assembled, make a liberal contribution of rupees 46, 200.

The money thus collected has been given to a catering unit that has close connections with Muslim League. It runs up to 2.3 lakh rupees.The caterers for this function were Rahmaniya Hotel in Kollam run by Muslim League associates
