Keralite Jihadis flock to ISIS

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala’s links with the dreaded Jihadist group ISIS is getting murkier with involvement of two Malayalis with the terror outfit being confirmed. Intelligence reports state that the two youths hail from Palakkad and Kottayam.

According to reports, the youth hailing from Palakkad was a former journalist, whose father is working in Qatar. “Following his life in Qatar, he was active in social media circles, through which he is said to have got in touch with ISIS and finally became a part of their fraternity. He is said to have left for Syria after which he remained absconding. However, recently his Facebook account was revived and the suspect is said to have got in touch with his acquaintances of his,” confirm reports.

The youth hailing from Kozhikode is said to have joined ISIS during his tenure in Saudi Arabia. Said to be a loner with few family connections, the youth is said to have left for Syria from Saudi.

It has been reported that in the last 18 months as many as 13 persons of Indian origin are said to have fled for foreign shores to join ISIS. All of them are reported to be in their twenties. Six among them have already been killed. It has also been reported that only one among these youths are on actual war front, while others have offered their services as helpers, drivers, cooks etc

Intelligence agencies and Union Home Ministry have initiated a programme to conduct detail probe into the cases of youths who have been missing. A stringent vigil is also being kept on social media platforms and various activities being indulged in them by users.
