Job reservation for Muslims : Affirmative discrimination against Hindus

via HK Correspondent published on January 21, 2006

A great deal of attention has been directed lately to the Narendran Commission Report for special government job reservation for Muslims, Latin Christians and other Converted Christians. Kerala government headed by Omman Chandy is frantically planning to implement the policy for special job reservation and quota for Muslims, Latin Christians and converted Christians to consolidate Muslim, Christian votes prior to the coming election. It is part of the ongoing appeasement policy of the Congress party.

SNDP, NSS and several Hindu Organizations have reacted strongly against the Omman Chandy government’s plan for separate job quota for Muslims and Latin Christians. Several social policy experts called the proposed job quota policy as controversial, counter productive and communal. It is illogical and unbalanced. Special job reservation for Muslims and Christians will have negative impact as it affects the meritocracy of the public sector. Instead of qualification, competency, proficiency and merit of job applicants, the proposed policy will hire Muslims and Latin Christians.

In this era of globalization, equal opportunity, demand for quality service, the decision of the Muslim, Christian dominated kerala government’s decision is dangerous, divisive and against national interest. The job quota system give discriminatory precedence to some based on religion.

It is not a move toward justice, but instead is a sacrifice of the rights of the majority Hindus.

The heinous proposal will strip the rights of all citizens to compete for government job, and will deny equal opportunity for all. The Omman Chandy government under the pressure of Muslims and latin Christians ignore the fact that open competition may always produce equal results for all. If the majority of Hindus who are already discriminated in education, employment, commercial opportunities, and loans, what would be left for them? Still, in Kerala, the tax burden is disproportionately met by the majority Hindus. Politicians who works overtime to invent phony justification for job quota for Muslims and Latin Christians ignore the enormous suffering of the majority Hindus in kerala. The special job reservation and preferential hiring practices may soon result in government bureaucracy that is more interested in protecting potential Jihadi terrorists and evangelists.
