The Goal of Education Is Knowledge, Wisdom And Spiritual Realization
Thiruvananthapuram:At a meeting organized by Kerala Hindus of North America in Thiruananthapuram, P. Parameswaran, Director, Bharathiya Vichara Kendram commented on the inadequacy of modern education.The meeting was organized to provide $250 each to fifty deserving students as educational scholarship.
“The current system of education has been based on the material and economic needs of an industrial model of society. The education system has been revised to further and perfect an archaic and dysfunctional system of education derived from the industrial model. It is a self-centered approach where education provides only data, information and knowledge on a given product or system to prepare students to serve the capitalist system. Modern education ignores values, wisdom and spiritual knowledge. Hindu system of education is value based, all inclusive, universal and leads individuals to knowledge, wisdom and spiritual realization. There is a decline in values worldwide and a moral decay due to destruction of family institutions and education based on materialism, information processing and data management. Where as education based on Hindu values provide an essential framework for understanding the physical world, global understanding, universal spiritual values and values common to all human beings.†His keynote speech at the meeting clearly highlighted the importance of introducing value based Hindu education to prepare the whole person.
During the inauguration of the meeting, Princes Aswathy Thirunal Thampurati emphasized that Hindus have provided value based education from ancient times. Now education has become a preparation of student for the labor market. Ancient spiritual wisdom and knowledge is reduced to mere data and information. Families used to transmit wisdom and values are fast disappearing. Hindus must be proud of their spiritual tradition, wisdom, values and valuable heritage.
Udhayabhanu Panickar, Chairman of Kerala Hindus of North America presided the meeting. P. Sreekumar, Janmabhumi welcomed the gathering. Pradeep Gopal gave vote of thanks at the meeting.
