KOCHI: There was tension and prayers at Indian cricketer Sreesanth’s home in Kerala and the prayers were finally heard when the bowler was selected for the Indian cricket World Cup squad Monday.

“Of course there were tense moments for us and we were a bit relieved after he did extremely well in yesterday’s match. Everything is because of almighty god, who has been our companion for long,” Savithri Devi, Sreesanth’s mother, told IANS.

Two days ago, 56-year-old Devi had visited Sreesanth’s favourite deity at the famed Sree Krishna Temple at Guruvayoor, around 300 km from Thiruvananthapuram.

“There were no offerings done, instead I prayed like never before that god give my dearest son a chance to don the Indian colours in West Indies and believe me I am the most excited and happiest mother,” exclaimed Devi, a retired Kerala government employee.

Incidentally, Sreesanth, 23, is the first cricketer from Kerala to represent India in the World Cup.
