Hindu Media - A Mirage
05/11/2010 13:30:26  P. Deivamuthu (Editor - Hindu Voice)

On and off, I do receive letters from readers moaning about the absence of a Hindu media. Many times, intensive discussions are held on the net on the subject. Hence, I thought of putting my thoughts.

From my experience as the editor of Hindu Voice and National Spirit, I can definitely say that a Hindu Media is a mirage. A few individuals like me may undertake the work and run the show for sometime, but collective efforts will not succeed, due to the ego problem existing among Hindus. Who will own it and wield supreme is the daunting question.

Before we talk of developing a Hindu Media, we should analyse why the existing Hindu media is not growing or folded up.

1. Jain TV was owned by Dr. J.K. Jain, who was a BJP MP. Why it folded up? Was there any ego problem between Dr. Jain and BJP leaders? Did the BJP leaders think that a media baron may get name and fame and supersede them?

2. Zee TV is owned by Shri Subhash Chandra, a BJP man. Why does it not support Hindutva? Is there any ego problem between Subhash Chandra and BJP leaders? Or is it that Zee TV feels that Hindutva will not sell and they will not be able to survive in the market unless they are 'secular'?

3. Sudarshan TV is owned by Shri Suresh Chavhanke. His channel is being broadcast but could be seen only in some places in and around Delhi. I met Suresh ji sometime back at Hotel Taj President at Colaba, Mumbai. After checking in, he surfed for Sudarshan TV. When he could not find it, he called the manager and questioned him. The manager immediately called the concerned engineer and asked him to do the needful. Within half an hour, Sudershan TV could be watched in Taj President Hotel, Mumbai. When I met him in his room, I too watched it. But I am not able to watch it in my home. The Multi-System Operators refuse to catch its signal, unless paid in crores.

Recently, I watched his programme BINDAS BOL (say freely) on the net about Soharabuddin case. Sureshji was fully supporting the Hindutva cause. He was supporting Narendra Modi to the hilt. But how many Hindu industrialists or Hindu organisations are going to help him to effectively run the show? Will the Gujarat government or Narendra Modi help him? I am sure, NOBODY WILL.

4. The Pioneer, Delhi, a daily newspaper, is fully supporting Hindu cause. I do not know if any Hindu businessmen or Hindu organisations help it grow. I even doubt whether those Hindus who are active on the net are buying its hard copy, to boost up its sales.

5. There are many magazines being run by Hindus all over the country, in English, Hindi and local languages. Why are they not being subscribed for in lakhs, if not in millions?

6. I have been running Hindu Voice since April 2002, and have launched National Spirit since April 2010. How many Hindu industrialists or Hindu organisations are supporting me. NO BODY (except a few honourable exceptions - some in India and some NRIs).

What I want to say is that Hindus themselves, except a few out of the many who are moaning on the net, do not support Hindu media. Look at the following example.

A few months back RSS Chief Shri Mohan Bhagwat Ji visited Kollam, Kerala. About one lakh Swayamsevak in full uniform attended the function. Another about one lakh citizens also attended to listen to his inspiring speech. Even if 20% of these two lakh start buying Janmabhoomi , a Malayalam daily promoting Hindutva, its sales would boom. But how many Hindus in Kerala buy Janmabhoomi? Compare this with Saamna in Mumbai. Almost all Shiv Sainiks buy Saamna, which makes it not only survive but thrive. Same is the case with other ideologically committed newspapers - be it of Communists, Christians or Muslims. They all buy 'their' paper, but Hindus DON'T, because they are 'secular'. Hindus will buy anti-Hindu papers and watch anti-Hindu Channels, but not those espousing Hindutva. Hindus would prefer to put their moneys in a Hundi in a temple, to be usurped by the Govt, rather than giving it for a genuine Hindu cause or service. Then how do you expect Hindu media to survive, leave alone thriving?

I said collective efforts will not succeed. I have reason to say this. I was the Managing Editor of Hindu Muzhakkam (Garjana), a Tamil monthly launched by VHP, Mumbai. After running it for four years, I had to give up my responsibility, and it became defunct (not due to financial problem), although we got RNI No., Postal Permission, etc. A sense of oneness is lacking when a group is formed. When someone starts working with a sense of belonging, there are a few to demoralise and deride him. This is a general problem every where, I hope. A feeling that the Editor is growing more than the Organisation is lurking among the other members of the organisation, which is but natural.

Many Hindus who talk of Hindu Media are vague and confused - Who will own it? Who will practically work on the project? Who will finance it? What about the risk involved? etc. Many Hindus even think that they have the knowledge/concept and someone should implement it with other's money. Some even think that everything should be done under their command, except the financial aspect. Simply speaking, Hindus do not want to part with their money for Hindu cause. Nor do they want to read papers and magazines promoting Hindutva to come out of their cultivated ignorance. I have come across Hindus who have discontinued their subscription to Hindu Voice. The reason - when they read Hindu Voice, their peace of mind is disturbed. Yes, telling the truth and the danger that is going to engulf their children is disturbing their peace! Their attitude is like that of a pigeon, which thinks that if it closes its eyes, the cat will not pounce on it!

Sometimes I am pained to see an individual, who a few years ago was a Hindu and converted to Christianity and became a Pastor, has earned name and fame. Not only that, he brings out a magazine of say 48 pages, all in multi-colour, and prints at least a lakh copies and sends them to his followers. In Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Andhra Pradesh, there are dozens of such Pastors. Every one just forms a 'Sabha' and prints lakhs of copies of his Sabha Magazine. Compared to them, I am ashamed of my inability to even survive, leave alone thriving. Definitely, I am not responsible for this, but Hindus jointly are.

One reason for Hindus not forthcoming to support an individual may be that the individual may discard him once he gets name and fame. It has happened in some cases. But unless rich Hindus take the risk of trusting and supporting someone fighting for Hindu causes, how can we build a Hindu Media?

I conclude - Hindu Media is a mirage. It is just impossible. If my belief is turned out to be wrong, I would be happy.

But still there is some silver lining - to take Hindutva messages to millions of people through the electronic media. Apart from Sudarshan TV
I mentioned above, there are new TV channels who are willing to carry our message. A2Z is a news channel run by a Sadak of Sant Asaram Bapu. The RKB Show in Lemon TV (of Rajiv Bajaj) is giving space to Hindutva views. As it is, Aastha and Sanskar channels are carrying Swami Ram Dev's Bharat Swabhiman's message. Shankara TV of Kanchi Madam is also propagating Santan Hindu Dharm. With the help of these limited exposure, Hindutva message can be taken to millions. Hindus who are complaining of the absence of Hindu media, should propagate these Channels among their friends circle so that more and more people start watching these channels.

However, having an English TV channel similar to NDTV or CNN-IBN is a far cry. Church Money and Petro Dollars freely flow to them to carry on their anti-Hindu and anti-India agenda. Can a Hindu media expect such a free flow of money from any quarter? Just impossible.

(*Editor, Hindu Voice Monthly & National Spirit Weekly and Founder-President, Hindu Journalists & Intellectuals Forum. All the three entities are working for a single cause - to remove the cultivated ignorance of Hindus and save Mother Bharat).

Start a Regional Hindu Radio Channel
My idea is that lot of people, specially from all classes of society listen to FM Radio, and its reach is wide in comparison to TV. So please start a Spiritual as well Awakening Radio Channels in all Regional Languages. Also suggest to Start Regional Hindu Bhakti cum Awakening Channels, let it be funded by surplus amount got from donation of Many Rich Temples as well as to be funded by Hindu Public through Subscription or Fund Raiser.
It will surely have an impact. it more worth than starting a publication. 5

You have really exposed the true face of Hindus who are reluctant to support each other and to work together for a strong Hindu Community which is a dream of almost all Hindus. 5

Rnovation
Hindus carry a voice of their own but it goes unheard under the crowd of noise pollutions that have been imposed up on them by the dirty politicians, bogus grandma news papers, teardrop TV channels. This has created anguish, misery and darkness among Hindus.
First of all Hindus should get rid of such noises,we have to rebel against any effort by others to impose their ideas. Then Hindus will attain a certain quality of silence and peace. Then our Hindu voice will not remain a small, still voice...it will become a tremendous thunder in the sky.
Let us not follow any commandments from commie and congi.Let us not follow any orders from bogus politicians who are standing against us.Let us not get lost in the wilderness of grandma and grandpa news papers and teardrop Tv channels.
Hindus, please remember-The greatest secret of growth is ability to respond. We need renovation of our old building.Cleaning, white washing and making few windows and doors.! 5

Root of the problem
The root cause of the problem that respected editor of Hindu Voice complains about is the answer to the following question:

Is it the organization or an individual who is running the Hindutva media?

If a media house is run by an individual then certainly it is bound to collapse. This fact is applicable to any religion or any organization.

We have to create media organizations to resolve this problem. 5

I want to subscribe for Hindu Voice
I want to subscribe to "Hindu Voice" magazine in English.

If you inform the bank account, I can make an online transaction for that purpose. It is easier to make an online payment than using the MO and DDs of the bygone era.

Revive Bhakti Movement !!
India during the Mughal empire survived total Islamization by the revival of Bhakti Movement by Saints like Tukaram, Lord Chaitanya, Annamacharya etc. We need similar Bhakti movement now to create awareness among Hindus about their glorius past and heritage. 5

Media
There are many Hindu channels even now. Astha, Sanskar, TTD, MH1, Zee Jagran, Sri Sankara, Sadak, Sudaarsan and our great Amrita. None of them are taking up the issues faced by Hindus as a society or opposing anti Hindu activities. Only Baba Ramdev is talking it some times. But some times his attitude gives a feeling that he is also going the secular way. When Yoga which is a Hindu ritual is taught by Baba or anyone, they all convert it into secular leaving all Hindu labels behind. In some classes, Sri Sri's disciples encourage their disciples to use Amen or La Ilaha etc substitute to Sacred OM. If yoga is taught it should be in a Hindu way only. Anyone who cannot use Hindu hymns need not study it. When Arita TV was started we thought it will serve Hinduism. But it turned out to be a great disappointment. It is also encouraging a nudity type living by presenting such programs. In one of the previous birth day celebrations of Mataji, a special invitee was a film actor who is appearing in liquor ads with a sentence, "What is you program in the evening" A good combination! So anything started as Hindu eventually end up as anti Hindu. Perhaps that is why even the hard core Hindus are not supporting such media. Among News papers, Pioneer and Janmabhumi are exceptions. Like Marxists do, BMS can do a lot to boost the circulation of these papers. To get Hindu channels, the viewers should ask the service providers and if they do not oblige change to another distributor. 5

very true indeed!
I notice it too. There are no words to describe the ignorance of Hindus. A saying goes like this...

"It is possible to wake up a dead corpse, but IMPOSSIBLE to wake up hindus to awareness". Sadly this is very true.

Whenver I broach the topic, I get isolated from friends. There are no takers. They are happy [blisffully ignorant in their little dreams]. 5

Let us not loose the hope.
Agree with Deimuthu sir's opinion. However, we shouldn't be discouraged and loose hope . Ofcourse, not all the Hindus are same. Yes, Hindus have turned away on Hindutva causes. However, when required Hindus have fought together for a unified cause like in Ayodhya. Didn't Hindus of all groups put a strong fight in Ayodhya ?. I hope and pray that the Hindus will put their egoes aside and genuinely work together for the cause of Hindus. We shouldn't give up the hope. 5

Hindu media- Not impossible
It is not easy to spread the message of RSS,VHP,BJP in Kerala due to the adverse effects created by leftists, islamists and missionaries. We have to take Hinduism directly to the masses.Kerala needs a Sadguru. Nama Sadhana is the best way. We have to build up a force of Sadhaks .The impossible becomes possible , when we do Nama sadhana. 5

There are many things which can be done...
I full agree with the view points. But there are many other things we can do till the time Hindus succeed in building our own media base.

1) Like Sri Sri Ravishankar vidyalayam started courses in journalism and mass communication, Hindu educational institutions can focus on producing more journalists who have Hindu pride in them. They can work in 'Secular' media and slowly they can change the scenario. Once the brilliant ones among them make succeed in their careers, they can make use of that influence to support the cause of Hindutva.
2) Definitely it would be a strategic advantage in having our people in enemy territories which will help us to demolish their nefarious designs by knowing the true stories and intentions behind these media groups with anti Hindu agenda.
More and more Hindus should start writing comments, responses etc. which will give the feel to the media owners about how general public think. This can definitely influence those media zaars who are secular just only to be 'politically correct'. Once they identify the popular mood of the people, they will be forced to change. I was successful in getting my many opinions published in reader's columns in newspapers like DNA. Responses from more people means more pressure to get our words heard !
Online fora is great boon to write and publish ideas, protests etc. It can be done with leasa effort and time. The media can not ignore that. 5

Can you say ......
Can you say I AM A HINDU?Just that and nothing else.Unless the hindus learnt to say I am a HINDU,the sense of togetherness won't be there.I AM A HINDU,I HAVE NO CASTE.I HAVE NO RACE AND I HAVE NO LANGUAGE.I AM HINDU AND PROUD TO BE ONE.can any of you say that with full conviction??? 5

Why Hindus are not united - lack of true understanding of Hinduism i.e sanatan dharma
We all mus understand one thing that what is in truest sense Hinduism, once we understand this we all will unite.

You are right
You are right sir.

This was what I wrote some time back in this column. The writers should not expect any organisation or political party to help the cause of Hindus. Indis is a country of unity in diversity. The wire that binds Indians are Hindu culture.

Region wise they should stand united as Hindus and fight and bring the unity nationwise.

Take the example of Pastor in the article. He converted to the religion where everything is organized. If he got converted to Buddhism or even Islam this would not have happened. Because the christianity want to divide Hindus even cultural wise. Thats why they thrive in pockets. That is only in some parts they will thrive, with the thriving they magnify and bring other pockets to their fold. To cite one more thing, the Hindu who lives in Lucknow, might not be aware of the customs of the Hindu in Sivakasi. Similarly, even the Hindus of TN dont know the customs of Kerala or Karnataka. So, if any wrong thing happens to the Hindus of Kerala, nobody bothers in TN. Similarly, anything get converted in TN, nobody in Lucknow will not bother his head. This mindset should go. Might be customs may separate the Hindus, but the wire sanatana Dharma is uniting all of us. Till such realisation happens, we can utmost shout from our roof tops. 5

You are true
You have spoken truth.
But dont worry things will change for better. This i realized long ago. All my co-educated Hindus are like this. But i and my spouse keep spreading the truth, our spiritual strength keeps us andhelp us. In the coming years Sanatan Dharma will awaken, how and why just wait and watch, The divines will, the will of yogis will work and sail it through all.

Here I would like to recall work of Acharaya Dharma shastri i.e Dr Frank Marales, Hindus should learn what is the difference between sanatan dharma, christanity and islam. His article Radical Universalisation ann apt one for all of us search the site and read it http://www.dharmacentral.com/.
Lot of work needs to be done on Comaparative studty of religions and take it to masses. The truth will ultimately win 5

Most interesting commentary!
The problem might also be that Hindus should have an all India channel or newspaper, rather than smaller regional ones.

On the other hand, perhaps it is the smaller regional ones that should be promoted because they promote regional awareness.

It is a tough call. 5

It is for the Dharma and by the Dharma that India exists… This Hindu nation was born with the Sanatana Dharma, with it it moves, with it it grows… The Sanatana Dharma, that is nationalism.
