Unlike in the past, the flow of devotees to Sabarimala Sannidhanam continued in large numbers resulting in the formation of long queues from Sabaripeedom.

The unprecedented and uncontrollable crowd this year at Pampa on Jan 14, had forced the law enforcement authorities to stop movement of devotees beyond Pampa for two days. This has led to an upsurge in the number of devotees arriving at Sannidhanam. Besides, the rains in the southern states of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka in Nov and Dec said to have compelled the devotees to postpone their pilgrimage to Jan. This phenomenon has also contributed to the increase in the number of devotees these days, official sources said.

Pilgrims in large numbers are still trekking on the traditional forest path from Erumely, they said.
