Fatwa against Bharathanatyam student

Malappuram, Mar14: Learning the South Indian Classical dance Bharathanatyam  has landed a Muslim girl and her family in the ire of the Islamic fundamentalists.

The crime the 16-year old daughter of Alavikutty of Valluambram village in Malappuram, committed was that she had learnt Bharathanatyam. The Mohalla Committee has ostracised the family. Alavikutty and his family members are not given membership by the mosque committee.

Rubia has taken up Bharathanatyam as a profession and her bread earner. A plus-1 student of the Morayur Veeran Haji Memorial Higher Secondary School, Rubia had secured 27 points in the Higher Secondary School Festival. Her performance has elevated the school to 5^th position at the festival.

Having chosen Bharathanatyam  as a profession and bread earner for her and family, she had performed on a number of stages in temples, etc. Rubia has got admission in the Darpana Dance Academy of Mrinalini Sarabhai.
