Counterfeit Currency, CPM Local Leader’s Hand Suspected

Vaikom: A local Marxist leader was recently arrested after he went absconding following a haul of counterfeit currency worth 9.5 lakhs. Kolathi Sreekuttan, alias Sarath is local committee member, Udayanapuram and is a DYFI leader. His wife is a CPM member of Udayanapuram grama panchayat. His accomplices were nabbed earlier from Mullappally. Accused in several criminal cases, he is prime accused in the case of attempt to murder RSS Taluk Shareerik Pramukh MR Krishnakumar. 

 

Anish, one of Sarat’s accomplices, is the prime suspect in a case in Gujarat related to counterfeit notes, in the year 2012. Sarath is suspected to have a hand in the same. Sarath’s life saw a sudden surge of wealth, which took people around him by surprise. His residence was flooded by cars. Sarath is also said to have gone on a land purchase spree. 

Suspicions arose when Sarath tried to hand over a counterfeit note of rupees 1000 at a petrol pump. The police was alerted, following which he was nabbed and taken for interrogation. However, following intervention from CPM at the district level, police set him free.
