THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Making a mockery of all the existing norms, the Kerala University has recruited even those who hadn’t applied for the test as assistants. The latest ugly turn in the row over the Kerala University assistants test is the finding that at least three of the assistants recruited under the controversial test hadn’t paid the application fees.

For setting the issues right, the University authorities forged documents to prove that it had received the application fee from them on July 7, the day before the deadline given by the Upa Lok Ayukta to submit all documents relating the assistants test.

The certificate stated that these students had paid Rs 100 through chellan as application fee for the assistant examinations. These certificates were issued to R.S.Sonarani, R.Rajani and V.S.Sukhilal. Sources in the University had said that this document was also part of the set of documents submitted before the Upa Lok Ayukta. Meanwhile, Upa Lok Ayukta came down heavily on the Kerala University for the conflicting versions in the affidavit filed by Vice-Chancellor M.K.Ramachandran Nair and Pro-Vice-Chancellor V.Jayaprakas in the controversy relating to the appointment of assistants in the University.

Upa Lok Ayukta N.Krishnan Nair, while hearing the petition filed by Senate member and KSU leader Sujith.S.Kurup, asked the University advocate to make clear which version he had to believe.

Krishnan Nair observed that from the records he had to infer that the answer sheets had been received by the University. As per the statement of the Vice-Chancellor it has to be inferred that the the OMR answer sheets were in the custody of the Pro-Vice-Chancellor, he said. The Upa Lok Ayukta has also directed the Lok Ayukta registrar to submit the records relating to the appointment process during the next sitting on July 15.The University has also been directed to furnish the University cash counter receipts or the demand drafts of all applications, the counterfoil of the OMR answer sheets and OMR data before the next sitting on July 15. Upa Lok Ayukta also allowed Bindukumari and Anu.S.Nair to implead in the case. Bindukumari’s marks were missing from the details of the written test published by the University in the website, while Anu.S.Nair’s, who was ranked 347 after the written test, dropped to 847 after the interview.

Sources said that the University had not conducted the random manual checking of the OMR sheets after valuation. This was one of the procedures followed by the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations and similar agencies while valuing the OMR answer sheets.
