published on June 20, 2014

With a crackdown on orphanages regarding child trafficking getting tough, more instances seem to be surfacing. According to the statement given to police, these children had been staying in Alwarool Huda orphanage in Melaattoor, Malappuram, as part of furthering their education.

In a recent episode, it has been reported that children from other states were found in groups in Kozhikode moffusil bus terminus. The children, numbering 8, hailing from West Bengal were handed over to police by the locals. According to sources, the children were in the age group of 6- 10.

Police have arrested a woman and four others, who have been found along with the children, masquerading as guardians. They are said to have stated that they were on their way to their home state via Kozhikode. The children have been handed over to Child Welfare Centre, Kozhikode.

It is being speculated that there is a scramble to send back children from other states, with the crackdown on child trafficking via Muslim orphanages intensifying.
