The BJP President, Mr P S Sreedharan Pillai today said that the party’s candidates in several constituencies have a chance to win.

The party, he told reporters here, was confident of securing more votes than ever before. Those who have written the party off in the state would be surprised this time as the party would open its account in the assembly this time, he said.

Accusing both the United Democratic Front (UDF) and Left Democratic Front (LDF) of having misled the people on crucial matters, he reiterated his party’s demand for a CBI probe into the Marad incident and tabling of the inquiry commission report.

Mr Pillai also demanded that the Chief Minister Mr Oommen Chandy, the Opposition leader, Mr V S Achuthanandan and other legislators should apologise for the unanimous resolution passed in the Assembly last month seeking the release of PDP leader Abdul Nasser Madani, who is in jail in connection with the Coimbatore bomb blasts. He also charged the LDF and UDF with following a policy of ‘communal appeasement’.
