Aranmula Fiasco – Kummanam seeks Chandy’s resignation

published on November 26, 2014

Alappuzha: Convener of Aranmula Paithruka Gramakarma Samiti Kummanam Rajashekharan has called for the resignation of Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, stating that it is his moral responsibility to step down in wake of the SC verdict pronounced regarding Aranmula issue. He also stated that the Chief Minister has to apologize to the people.

Seeking to know how the Kerala government could ever take forward with the Union ministries of Environment, Defence and Airways, a project that has not received the NOC, Kummanam Rajashekharan said, “The government has taken 10%  shares in a project, which was planned after flouting 13 vital legal clauses. The KGS Group has filled precious water-bodies and leveled our land areas. They lost all legal battles. The SC verdict is the victory of a 10 year people’s struggle, which would cause untold havoc regarding the supply of vital parameters like food and water.”

“The assessment on environmental damage was not done by a responsible body. Most documents submitted were manipulated. There has been a lot of fraudulence and corruption done to cover things up. Therefore a thorough investigation must be conducted into each of the dealings done in the name of the international airport. The government should be able to book the culprit and bring him before law. At least at this late hour, let us hope that the state government withdraws its order declaring Aranmula as an industrial area. 232 acres of land, in the surplus land declared by state government, must be distributed among the landless. The leveled and disrupted land and water bodies must be restored to their pristine form, there by implementing the HC verdict,” he added.
