An empress of India in new clothes

Like Sonia Gandhi, I am a Westerner and a brought-up Christian. Like Sonia Gandhi, I have lived in India many years and I have adopted this country as my own.

But the comparison ends there. I did land in India with a certain amount of prejudices, clichés and false ideas, and I did think in the enthusiasm of my youth to become a missionary to bring back Indian ‘pagans’ to the ‘true god’. But the moment I stepped in India I felt that there was nothing much that I could give to India, rather it was India which was bestowing me. In fact in all my years here India has given me so much — professionally, spiritually, sentimentally. Most Westerners, who come here, still think they are here to ‘give’ something to a country, which, unconsciously of course, they think is lesser than theirs. It was true of the British, it was true of Mother Teresa, it is true of Sonia Gandhi.

It is a fact that Sonia brought discipline, order and cohesion into the Indian National Congress. But the amount of power that she, a person of foreign origin, an elected MP like hundreds of others, possesses should frighten her. All the television channels report without a blink that Maharashtra CM rushes to Delhi to meet Sonia Gandhi to plead for his life. But should not Chavan have gone to the prime minister first?

The CBI blatantly and shamelessly quashed all injunctions against Ottavio Quattrocchi and even allowed him to get away with billions of rupees which he had stolen from India. Yet, without batting an eyelid, and with the Indian media turning a blind eye, it goes ruthlessly after the chief minister of the most efficiently run state, the most corruption free. Today the Congress, with Sonia’s overt or silent consent, pays crores of rupees to buy MPs to topple non-Congress governments. Her governors shamelessly hijack democracy by twisting the law.

Are Indians aware that their country has entered a state of semi-autocracy where every important decision comes from a single individual residing in her fortress of 10 Janpath surrounded by dozens of security men, an empress of India? Do they know that the huge amounts of the scams, whether the 2G, the CWG, or the Adarsh housing society scam, do not go into politicians’ pockets (only a fraction), but to the coffers of the Congress for the next general elections, and more than anything to please Sonia Gandhi? Nobody seems to notice what is happening under the reign of Sonia Gandhi.

That an Arundhati Roy is allowed to preach secession in India, whereas on the other hand the Congress government has been going after the army, the last body in India to uphold the time-honoured values of the Kshatriyas — courage, honour, devotion to the Motherland. They  alone today practise true secularism, never differentiating between a Muslim or Hindu soldier and  who for a pittance daily give their lives to their country. First it was the attempt of a caste census, a divide-and-rule ploy if there is one; then there are the first signs that the government is thinking about thinning down the presence of the Indian army in the Kashmir valley, which will suit Pakistan perfectly. And now there is the Adarsh housing society scam in which the army officers, at the worst, were innocently dragged into it. We know now that it was the politicians of the Congress who benefited the most out of it.

It would be impossible in France, for example, to have a non-Christian tell a Hindu (who is a non-elected president or PM) to be the absolute ruler of the country behind the scenes, superseding even the PM. There are many capable people in the Congress. Why Can’t a billion Indians find one of their own, who will understand the complexity and subtlety of India, to govern themselves?  Not only that, but her very presence at the top has unleashed forces, visible and invisible that are detrimental to the country. There is nothing wrong in espousing the best of the values of the West — democracy, technological perfection, higher standards of living — but many of the institutions are crumbling in the West: two out of three marriages end in divorce, kids shoot each other, parents are not cared for in their old age, depression is rampant and Westerners are actually looking for answers elsewhere, in India notably.

One does not understand this craze to Westernise India at all costs, while discarding its ancient values. Sonia Gandhi should do well to remember that there still are 850 million Hindus in India, a billion worldwide and that whatever good inputs were brought by different invasions, it is the ancient values of spirituality behind Hinduism which have made India so special and which gives it today unique qualities making an Indian Christian different from an American Christian, or an Indian Muslim different from a Saudi Muslim. It is an insult to these tolerant Hindus to show United States President Barack Obama as his first input of the Indian capital the tomb of Humayun, a man who slaughtered Hindus in thousands, taking Hindu women and children as captives. He even subjected his elder brother Kamran to brutal torture, gauging his eyes out and pouring lemon into them.

The tragedy of India is that it was colonised for too long. And unlike China, it always looks to the West for a solution to its problems. Sonia Gandhi, whatever her qualities, is just an incarnation of that hangover, an empress of India in new clothes.

“An empress of India in new clothes”
Hats off to Mr.John Maclithon for his forthright article titled ‘An
empress of India in new clothes’. It is indeed a thorough shame that
the Congress sycophants have handed over the reins of this country to a foreigner, who has no respect whatsoever for the values and spiritual ethos of this sacred land of the Hindus. She and the evangelists behind her have failed to appreciate that India is a secular state only because of the majority Hindus.

The Congress leaders including Sonia,Rahul,PC,Digvijay et al made
baseless, serious and defamatory allegations against the venerable RSS and the symbols of Hinduism. The party conspired to implicate
respectable RSS leaders and saints in bomb blast cases. Now Congress sycophants are angry at what Mr.Sudarshan is alleged to have said about Sonia, but they have only got a taste of their own medicine. It was the Congress leaders who indulged in the anti-hindu conspiracy and defamation of Hindu icons and institutions. It is high time the inept party did some

Sonia and her minions cannot tar respectable Hindu organizations and icons and get away with it every time. Let them first tender a public apology for
their anti-hindu policies and provocative/derogatory utterences, before demanding an apology from others. 5

    Cold Blooded Empress
The Empress indeed rules India with an iron fist. She is such a destructive force for India.

When will Indians awaken from they slumber!! 5

    A timely article !
Hindus have to decolonise their minds. The long night of the two Occupations, the Muslim and the British, has kept their minds in chains.

Many have succumbed to modernism rather than imbibe modernity which does not contradict Hindu values.

As the writer points out, there is nothing wrong in adopting the good values from the West. It is the uncritical acceptance of everything that is Western that should be given up.

Re: Humayun’s tomb. Obama should have been taken to Akshardham. 5

Sonia Gandhi a tragedy to India.
Truth is presented by the author. It is upto the Indians and Hindus especially now to awake from their ignorance and kick her out of power. Hindus shouldn’t be naive and foolish to accept Sonia as the emperor. She is almost like Queen elizabeth of India . It is frightening to see the whole country giving power to one lady who has misused CBI, corruption agencies and to some extent courts. How dare this lady attack a nationalist organization like RSS ?. The PM of India is a chamcha of Sonia Gandhi. It is shame on Indians . Absolute shame that they have given extreme power to a foreigner like Sonia. 5

Excellent comments by fellow commenters .
The fellow commenters have put the truth in a nut shell. A foreigner born Sonia has no knowledge of Hinduism and depth of Hindu history of India. Her attack on RSS is highly derogatory and she must be slapped with defamation case in the court . Her jimmicks and tactics must be clearly exposed to the Indian Hindus since the Muslims and Christians are actually provoking her to attack Hindu organizations and Hinduism. She is a fox in the sheep’s clothing. 5

    Maharashtra CM ‘rushing’ to Sonia.
To-day, asked to comment on the offer of Jayalalitha to bale out the UPA Govt., if DMK should withdraw support, the PM replies:”the High Command will take a decision”. He does not even say “we will take as considered decision”. When he was called a weak PM, by Advani, he got offended. Is not his to-day’s reply a sign of his weakness? What a shame? 5

    Bad and shameful choice!
I agree with Dr.Vijaya Rajiva that Obama should have been taken to the famous and wonderful Akshardham Temple rather than the tomb of a Mughal invader.Bad and shameful choice! 5

Thanks for the article..The Billion Hindus do not have an organised religious representation and that is the need of the hour. The Hindu religious leaders should have the most say in a country of Hindus. It is the ignorance of the vast majority in a democracy that others pay the price for.
Indians outside India appreciate the Hindu values that make them different from people of their own religion elsewhere.Unfortunately we have too many gullible innocent people at home in India who have control over the electoral system and consequently others suffer.
There is hope, all is not lost and I sincerely believe things will change over the next decade as the educated powerful Hindu community organises to uphold Dharma an bring back the glory that has always been India’s no matter what the West thinks of India. 5

    India’s Shame, Christian Gain
This article has hit the nail on the head. The longer Sonia Gandhi is at the top of the Congress party, the worse the damage she will do to the country. It is shameful that the Congress has not been able to find a 100% Indian to head their party.

As it is, she is too fond of Christians, and that too, Kerala Christians in particular. The day is not too far off when the country will be entirely in the hands of Christians and the Church! 5

Responsibility of Archeological Survey of India
The President of the United States of America was taken to the tomb as part of a guided tour. When such tours are conducted the VIP entourage is carefully guided through areas which the hosts want the VIP to see. For example, if the VIP is taken to the infamous “Taj Mahal” he is taken through the garden to the entrance and circle through a limited area subjecting him to the mouthing of “tour guides” who have are coached to lie and have no idea of Indian history or the original history of the venue. If one sneaks out of the group and from the prying eyes of security personnel and inspects the back, sides and adjacent buildings of the so called monuments of Mughal architecture, one could not help noticing the fact that they were all built on the foundations of great temples or palaces of Hindu India. For example, one of the wonders of the world, “the Taj Mahal” undoubtedly stands on the foundations of a temple. So is the tomb of Humayun. One should look around and see the remains of a glorious Vaishnava temple destroyed long time ago. I wonder if the responsibility of Archeological Survey of India is to ensure the concealment of damage done by invading bandits or the protection and preservation of India’s historic past! 5

Did You Know?

Take the Wayanad incident in Northern Kerala. It was reported that a priest and four women were beaten up and a Bible stolen by “fanatical” Hindus. A FIR was lodged, the communists took out processions all over Kerala to protest against the “atrocities” and the Press went gaga. Yet as an intrepid reporter from the Calicut office of the Indian Express found out, nobody was beaten up and the Bible was safe. Too late : the damage was done and it still is being made use of by the enemies of Indi.
