KOLLAM: BJP state president P K Krishnadas has said that the Government should implement the Justice Paripoornan Commission report on the functioning of the Devaswom Board.

Addressing a news conference here on Thursday, Krishnadas said that the administration of the Devaswom Board by politicians should be stopped. The crux of the Justice Paripoornan Commission report was depoliticising the Devaswom Board.

Krishnadas said that denial of the administration of temples to the Hindus was a non-secular act. The Devaswom Minister should have been a believer. ‘‘An atheist heading the Devaswom Department is like entrusting a drunkard with the leadership of the anti-liquor panel,’’ he said.

Krishnadas alleged that Devaswom Minister G Sudhakaran had opted out of the high-power committee meeting convened by the Chief Minister when the Sabarimala issue was burning. The Devaswom Board and the Government are treating pilgrims like enemies.

The Devaswom Board had stated that there was an increase of pilgrims by 30 percent every year. But no preparations have been done to deal with the rush of pilgrims, he said. The BJP leader said that the CPM was following a hidden agenda to destroy the places of worship of Hindus. The BJP will take out a ‘Sabarimala Samrakshana Yatra’ from Pandalam to Pampa on December 23 led by Krishnadas.

Krishnadas also demanded a CBI inquiry into the Merchiston land deal. Forest Minister Binoy Viswam had said that a prominent person was behind Xavi Mano Mathew. The BJP leader asked the Forest Minister whether it was the Home Minister or Education Minister. The party will launch an agitation against the price rise of rice in the open market. The Government has failed in intervening in the open market and checking the prices, he said.
