If Mullaperiyar agitation starts again ………
06/09/2012 14:01:50  By Synonymous

Sabarimala season for this year is starting soon and ‘think tanks’ in Devalokam and Vatican must be burning their midnight oil on finding the ways and means to energize the agitation again. Mullaperiyar agitation has become a routine affair every year and invariably coincides with the Sabarimala season. The sad part is it that not many, including those who are actively participating in the agitation on ground level, knows the actual requirements of those who are leading the agitation. One of the leaders so far has now turned a ‘betrayer’ after he started opposing a new dam.

If the agitation is getting resuscitated again this year, the real intentions of Kerala Congress leaders are obvious. Maani, Joseph and George are taking off from where the Nilakkal parties attempted and failed in the past. They want disruption of Sabarimala season and prevent Sabarimala pilgrimage from becoming a rallying point of Hindu unity in Kerala. By frightening off the pilgrims from other states, with the bogey of Mullaperiyar dam, the evil protagonists assume that the temple’s importance will come down. Resurrecting the Nilakkal cross and adding it to the international Christian Pilgrimage route of St.Thomas churches will end Sabarimala pilgrimage very soon.

So better watch out and keep your eyes and ears open.......... Hindus of Kerala unite, you have nothing to lose but only a Kashmir-like disaster that is looming large.........

Mullaperiyar DAM
Thanks Ravi & KKR for the explanations n I buy your points. But the important issue here is whether we need 120years old DAM which is not sure of its integrity. Only few such dams remains in the world and there are examples of DAM collapse and milllions lost their lifes. If the affected people are not comfortable let us collapse this DAM and build a new one. We are ready to give water to TN then why they have to oppose the new DAM. It is also spread outside world that the Mullaperiyar dam is in Christian area which is not true. The taluks of Perumede, Udumbanchola and Devikulam are Hindu majority area. We dont care a scrap about what Mani, Joseph has to say it is their politics. More over many rights of highrange people are now deprived including pattayam, good raods, electricity are denied due to many false propaganda. People should know that 66% of total Kerala Electricity is produced from Idukki district. During Mullaperiyar agitation we took special care on Sabarimala pilgrims, I didnt hear any Sabarimala pilgrims are blocked on road. On Mullaperiyar issue every political party was involved and social organisations like SNDP, NSS, Trade Unions, Merchant unions etc was active. We need Mullaperiyar issue to be solved once for all.

Attn Sunil
A straight gravity dam stands on its own weight. In any portion of it no stone will come out without removing the stone on top of it. Total weight and size is calculated based on water pressure at its MWL ( maximum water level). Unlike the today's masonry where rubble is simply dumped and mortar poured into it, masonry of those period was perfect, means each and every stone was dressed, packed and its shake arrested. The surkhi has a void filling duty than a binding duty. More over the dam is constructed with utmost dedication and care and of course without corruption. Hence the likely hood of it breaking because of water pressure is very very very less. But in case of an earth quake of a large measure it will. But then, in that case even the mighty Idukki dam also may suffer. The void caused because of washing away of surkhi mortar can be filled by doing grouting/ or colcreting using packer which is done after the construction of all dams. One more such dam is there in south India. The Pechippara dam in Kanyakumary district of Tamilnadu which was constructed during the period of Sri Mulam Thirunal Maharaja, nearly 120 years ago. People are staying down stream of that also. That is why TN government is not worried about Mullaperiyar.A new dam is certainly welcome, but there seems to be some vested interest in some people which may be the possibility of corruption. I am sure, with the corruption level in Kerala, such a dam will not be constructed in Kerala (even if commenced) in another 20 years (Kallada is the best example). Even after that the new dam may leak and break than the present dam. That is Kerala. Then, the agitation, starting at Sabarimala season, may be due to Joshua project. (find from google)

Can't just ignore this
Sunil, The article doesn't ignore the concerns of people who spent their lives in constant fear. And the number of people who undergo this trauma runs in to millions make this issue very very important. The only thing the author wants to highlight is the fact that the burning issue of Mullaperiyar is being used to hurt the interests of Hindus by targeting Sabarimala devotees. As you would have noticed that many Prilgrim vehicles were attacked in the last season and this created fear in the minds of people from other states. Many abandoned their trip after reaching state borders. If these guys are sincere in their stands, let them raise the issue, just after the Sabarimala season. Or keep it under strict control and make sure there is no hurdle crated for Pilgrims.

Hindus to be alert and protect Sabarimala pilgrims
To develop the Christian interests, non-issue of Mulla Periyar will again be made as a core issue affecting relationship among the people of various States. This time both Government and the Hindu organizations irrespective of their caste differences should unite and protect the Sabarimala pilgrims visiting from various parts of the country.

Mullaperiyar DAM to be demolished
Bull shit report. I am from Idukki and I know how much pain we are suffering due to this century old dam. What is the problem if a new dam is constructed instead of this old scrap. The only issue TN is they need the same lease agreement extend for 1000 years which is not possible when new dam is constructed. I expect Haindavakeralam is more sensible in your report.
