UPA out to gag free opinion on Sonia, Rahul on internet: RSS

NEW DELHI: The RSS has alleged that the UPA government is out to gag people's free opinion on the net, especially those regarding Sonia Gandhi and son Rahul, through requests to sites like Google to remove content and by seeking users' data and account details.

"The government of India is seeking to gag the voice of the public, expressed most freely on the net. It has sent 96 requests to the Google site alone from June to December 2011 of removal of content," RSS mouthpiece Organiser said in the editorial of its latest edition.

It maintained that according to Google, there has been a 49% rise in the number of requests for removing the contents in India, the highest in the world.

"It may be recalled that HRD minister Kapil Sibal had growled in exaggerated fury over a cartoon regarding the Prime Minister. The UPA government is being lampooned, criticized and chided by angry citizens," the editorial said, adding that this is the role of the media but since it has failed to do so the people have chipped in.

Organiser alleged that as per newspaper reports the government investigative agencies are also engaged in finding the physical location and identity of several IP addresses from the US, which have posted material not "palatable to the Gandhi family", particularly Sonia Gandhi and son Rahul.

Citing Google, the editorial said most requests for removal are regarding political comments.

"Google received 2,207 requests for user data and 3,427 requests regarding users and accounts between July and December 2011. It complied with 66% of the requests," the editorial said, adding that Pakistan has made only two such requests.

Guru 01/07/2012 21:59:09	Internet regulation in India is too backward-looking The way India has placed control mechanisms on the Internet is unprecedently backward looking for a democratic nation. Indian politicians are unable to accept (let alone, nurture!) the direct nature of communication on the internet, social media etc. Even Shashi Tharoor who used Twitter to build a following is clueless (or on the wrong side) when it comes to the IT laws. These laws are designed to give police the power to harass almost any internet user if they choose to harass. Google gets far too many block and take-down requests from India for political reasons. Repeal the "Information Technology Act" (IT Act) of India which is a backward piece of legislation. For example, "blasphemy" or "annoying words" is a valid allegation for police to act and arrest web site owners according to this law. Police may even take users into custody for "investigation" if they browse such a website. This is the kind of harassment which is possible and being increasingly used by private parties who are able to pay. Police investigation can be started and cancelled after dragging for as many years as decided, and not even filing a charge sheet because the "offence" is considered bailable. During this time any web site or web page targetted will have to remain shut. That is how they can plan to kill the spontaneous and direct nature of social media (internet) and citizen journalism. Something must be done by the people of India if they want to enjoy liberty and taste freedom.

For this they have done everything possible like monetary offers, awards, positions, and even appointing ministers of the choice of some of the media people. But, since they couldn't do this with angry citizens, they are trying desperately to minimize the damage by curbing freedom of expression in the social networking sites, etc.

Now it is the turn of Sonia Maino to do the same through the help of National Investigative agencies. Hope these agencies will not curb HK. Any way, it is Irony that a Waitress from a hotel is now enjoying like a queen of the country. All thanks to the foolish citizens of India, who are repeatedly electing this waitress and her party. She will use every government agency to consolidate power. Shameless people of India still vote for this witch.

Ravi 01/07/2012 03:22:25	Nehru Family If these people want to avoid any criticism the best way to adopt is avoid creating such situations. They should remember that they are not revered to majority of Indians, they are running a minority government with help of small parties from time to time and to members of these parties too, that family is not revered one. If they do not like criticism they should not come to public life. There is an example in India during emergency. What happened to that party in the elections is best example. Indira Gandhi was in much powerful position, a fully Indian and certainly liked by much more than these people.

I fail to understand if this is a complimentary word or a derogatory one. To me, it looks more like the later. At least HK should stop calling with that name and just refer to it as "Organiser". Thank you.

If not google there are so many sites around the world and alternative search engines which can be used to bring Sonia and Rahul to their feet. Their arrogance need to be checked. The arrogance of Gandhi/Nehru dynasty will not be tolerated by civilized citizens of India.
