Why the BJP should not bother about 'secular' allies or the Muslim vote

GVL Narasimha Rao -LensOnNews

Does the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) need a ‘liberal’ leader to present a softer image to the Muslims? This is the demand made by Bihar Chief Minister and Janata Dal (United) leader Nitish Kumar. In my view, this Muslim centric thinking is not only flawed but a treacherous attempt to isolate the BJP and its parent body the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and push them on the defensive.

The moot question is whether the BJP should pander to such demands for a liberal leader to increase its acceptability among Muslims. To my mind, the answer is a firm no. I cite two reasons in support of my stand.

Firstly, Muslims have never voted for the BJP in any parliamentary election. Even when Atal Bihari Vajpayee was projected as the prime minister, Muslims vehemently opposed the BJP in every single parliamentary election. So, presenting a liberal face for blunting Muslim opposition is not a great idea.

Second, it makes eminent political sense for the BJP to stick to its core ideology of non-appeasement for it benefited it immensely. Let me cite the instance of two minority dominant states namely Uttar Pradesh and Kerala to elucidate this point.

Muslim opposition helps BJP

The widely propagated theory that Muslim consolidation against the BJP hurts it electorally is bunkum. It is a bogie raised by BJP’s opponents and its own apologists. There is ample evidence to the contrary. Muslims’ rabid opposition to the BJP has indeed proved to be beneficial to it electorally.

Take the case of Uttar Pradesh. In the 1996 Lok Sabha elections, held three years after Babri demolition, the BJP bagged 52 of 85 seats in Uttar Pradesh. Again, in 1998, the BJP bagged 57 seats. If vehement opposition from Muslims and their tactical voting against the BJP could defeat the BJP, it could not have performed well in UP in both these elections.

The outcome of 1996 and 1998 elections in Uttar Pradesh shows that the opposition of Muslims does not adversely affect the BJP. On the contrary, the Muslims’ opposition to the BJP has been beneficial to it electorally by consolidating Hindu votes in its favour.

Hindu polarisation hurts Congress

Let me now cite the case of Kerala where excessive minority wooing has hurt the Congress party severely. In 2011 assembly polls, Congress party’s coalition partners namely the Muslim League (MUL) and Kerala Congress (M) aggressively wooed their Muslim and Christian vote banks respectively. A reverse polarization of Hindus resulted in Congress party’s poor tally of 38 of the 87 seats it contested. Polarization of Hindu voters in favour of the Left Democratic Front (LDF) ensured that it did remarkably well in Hindu dominant regions.

The Congress party faced a similar experience in the 1980s when Rajiv Gandhi-led Congress party attempted to woo Muslim voters aggressively by pursuing appeasement politics. When the party feared a Hindu backlash, he was forced to backtrack from his efforts.

Generally, Hindus who constitute over 80% of India’s electorate do not vote as a bloc. But whenever Muslims were wooed aggressively by some parties to the point of causing aversion among Hindus, a reverse consolidation of Hindus happened as a natural reaction. Hindus vote as a community only under strong provocation or in a rare reaction to community-wise intensive buildup by the minorities. The massive electoral wave of 1984 in favour of Rajiv Gandhi following Indira Gandhi’s assassination was a Hindu reaction to the killing of the then prime minister by Sikh extremists.

Modi as a leader

Narendra Modi is synonymous with development, progress and incorruptible governance. Even before his projection at the national level, Modi has notched up high rankings as the preferred prime minister. His formidable reputation and popular ratings are unnerving rival claimants to the high office. The attempts to target Modi have acquired urgency in this regard.

Congress and other parties can be expected to intensify this “anti-Modi” rhetoric as 2014 election draws closer. Every attempt to target Narendra Modi would consolidate the Hindu votes in favour of the BJP without the BJP doing anything to cause such a reaction. It is the common ‘mass psychology’ to support someone opposed by everybody and that too without justification.

Would attempts targeting Narendra Modi not have the potential to derail the campaign focus from mis-governance of the UPA? No. With a leader like Narendra Modi steering the BJP campaign, the focus would automatically be on development and corruption free governance. If the Congress party and allies seek to communalise the campaign; that would be an added ‘bonus’.

The demand for a (pseudo) secular leader is not just an anachronistic idea but a smokescreen for pursuit of old style vote bank politics. Pursuit of such politics may be the pathological compulsion of some parties but their appeal in contemporary politics is highly limited as even Muslims are realizing the self-serving designs of political leaders.

The nation is reeling under mis-governance of the Congress led UPA regime at the Centre. What it needs is a capable leader who can give the country a corruption free, development oriented high quality governance. The whole nation is eagerly awaiting a leader and a progressive agenda for the next Lok Sabha polls to steer it out of the inertia that grips the country.

India-Nation of Hindus
Why we are hesitating to tell that India is a Hindu nation.Constitutionally it may not be so.But by nature it is Hindunation.
And unfortunately Hindus are being treated as aliens here. Those who came from out side and their descendents are snatching away this country from Hindus with the help of greedy politicians, intellectuals and partisan Medias.
The greedy politicians created a situation in this country where it is very difficult to win a election without the votes of minorities.
All the parties are worried at the prospect of loosing minority votes. That is why many NDA partners including Shivasena decided to desert BJP and support the UPA candidate in the forthcoming presidential election .
Most of the NDA partners don't endorse hindutwa and Indian nationalism.
Sonia Gandhi a foreigner is deciding who should be our prime minister, chief ministers and high civil and military dignitaries. Most of her decisions are in the interest of her family and her foreign patrons.More and more political parties are trying to appease her ignoring the national interests.
Of course India was shining during NDA rule under the leadership of Shri Attalji.
What happened to this country after 8 Yrs of UPA rule.
Economy is in ruin,Indian rupee is loosing it value in such a fashion soon it won't be worthy of the paper it is printed on,prizes of essential commodities soaring high, corruption is spreading like cancer and anti national elements like Naxals, islamic and evangelic terrorists are having free hand to destabilise our country.Stock markets are crashing, foreign investors are deserting and international crediting agencies are downgrading our economy. Our future seems to be dark.
First of all BJP should get rid off it's partners who are not endorsing Hindutwa and should stop worrying about likes and dislikes of minorities.
A Mody like leader should be projected as it's future prime minister candidate and fight the election.Only a leader like Modi could save the country now.

Why the BJP should not bother
The BJP does not have any strategy and that is costing them dearly. They had short term relationship with BJD in Orissa, with AIADMK, then with Nitish Kumar, all these leaders want to become PM, now all are eyeing 2014 elections. Narendra Modi by his sheer efficiency is a strong contender so they want to eliminate him from the race. They are maligning him for the riots. Why nobody talks of the Sikh riots engineered by the Congress. Nitish has to answer for Forbesganj etc. Lack of deep strategy is hurting BJP prospects.

Ignore demands of people like Nitish Kumar
BJP should self introspect before it heeds to the demands of its ally Nitish Kumar. This fellow is a fence sitter and he may not help BJP in any way. He intensely benefited with Partnership from BJP. As far Muslims are concerned they will never vote for BJP and there is no point in appeasing them like Khangress or Psuedo-secular parties like SP, TMC . If BJP adopts appeasing them they will be treated as Khangress-B party. Ofcourse, there is nothing wrong in elevating the poverty of the country which includes them. There is no harm in Muslims developing in a fair manner in the society. Radical Islam shouldn't be tolerated. Khangress and Psuedo-secular parties help radical Islam.

pseudo secularism must end in India
This pseudo secularism must end in India. This is hurting only the majority Hindus. This secularism itself is leading us to slavery. If you take Kerala as a good example we can see how badly Hindus are placed by being secular all these years.

Forget Nitish if he is not happy. He has no existence in Bihar if BJP is gone. All the progress Bihar is making, BJP is an equal partner. Now BJD and Mamta have nowhere to go. Jayalalitha also is leaning towards BJP. Jagan is a sure candidate too. If Nitish is playing hardball, let him quit and loose Bihar to Laloo again.

BJP should not bother
BJP should not at all bother about their so-called "secular" allies leaving the alliance. It should also not bother about losing muslim or christian votes, as muslims and christians never vote for BJP even otherwise. In fact, the BJP starting losing the Hindu votes because it diluted the Hindutva ideology. At least now, BJP may try to bring back the confidence of the Hindu voters by strictly following the Hindutva.

We should not care of those secularists, as far as they are damaging us.

Fortunately, still we are the majority community of India and we can do many things before falling to minority or we can stop us becoming a minority.

"Success comes to those who become success conscious". We have to approach and watch each and every political developments of this country with the mind of a majority, who are in risk. This is our motherland, the mother land of Hindu Gods and religious scholars. Nothing is impossible for the person, who backs desire with enduring faith. Our only limitations are those we set up in our own minds. What we are seeing after Neyattinkara election are, those workers and supporters who worked and sacrificed for Hindutwa ideologies, together with those who lived and desired for the existence of the majority culture in Kerala, have commenced to pay dividends. So we have to keep our spirit alive. Nobody can hold us back.

Nobody can take the future of India away from us, if we are with an intense burning desire for something definite. We all together should work for a greater tomorrow.

Why Hindus alone should be secular.

Why Hindus alone should be secular ?

Even in Congress and Communist parties, Muslims and X'ian leaders stand together with their opponents to attack or demands whenever a need arises from their respective religions.

Talking of religion or their problems are restricted only for Hindus. If a Hindus talked of religion, he becomes communal.

We have more wilds in jungle than Musis, so please ignore those wilds and their culture. We have to live like human beings in this mother lands. While protecting us and our loved ones from these poisnous wilds.

Don't encourage Muslims to convert you
Muslims have an obligation to the Quran and thus a mission: to convert any non-Muslim society into a Muslim society.
The sooner Hindus realiose this, the better. In fact, in the Muslim way of thinking, any concession to them is seen as the willingness of the other to accept Islam and to convert to Islam. So why a Hindu party or a Hindutva party should give this message? It's foolish indeed!
Every man going out of the Hindu pale is not only a man less but also an enemy the more.
