O. Rajagopal's Live Election Campaign ; First time in Electoral History

For the first time in the history of the electoral battles in the country, an election campaign is being covered live in the internet. It is being done by the Bharatiya Janata Party for their candidate O Rajagopal for the election at Neyyatinkara. The initiative has been launched by the IT cell of BJP. “It’s definitely the first of its kind in an election campaign,’’ said the spoke person of the IT cell. With the webcast being a continuous live streaming of Rajagopal’s daily tours and conventions which can be watched live, netizens can avail of both video and audio sources. “In Neyyatinkara, the municipality area is ideal for the project. Some of the outskirts lack coverage,’’ he added.

It also features prompt campaign updates and other aspects created specially for the purpose of the elections. There are number of visuals, photos, posters and slogans added everyday, helping the supporters keep their unbeaten first position in online campaigning. BJP is far ahead in online campaigning in comparison with its rivals and this has already caught the attention of the media, inluding the major players in the national visual media. “Through e-campaigning we aim to catch the attention of Neyyatinkaraites who are working in other parts of the country or abroad. They may not be voting themselves, but can prompt their family members to vote for the BJP candidate,’’ said state President of BJP V Muraleedharan.

Rajagopal, the BJP patriarch, is being pitted against UDF’s R Selvaraj and LDF’s F Lawrence. He has made his active presence felt in Neyyatinkara for quite a long time. The striving hands of the live webcast belongs to a 5 member team that has been specially formed for the purpose. Apart from the management of Rajagopal’s parallel campaign in the e-world, the team looks into SMS campaigns, dispatching of e-mails and active promotions and brand building via social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter.
